En esta exposición colectiva, presento mi obra Paz en la Tierra, rindiendo homenaje a Nicholas Roerich: artista, filósofo, escritor, arqueólogo, viajero y gran pensador Pacifista. Pintó más de 7000 lienzos (muchos de los cuales se encuentran en galerías famosas por todo el mundo) y escribió más de treinta obras literarias…
Paz en la Tierra, en Memoria de Nicholas Roerich
El «Pacto Roerich» (también conocido como Pax Cultura) es un acuerdo internacional propuesto por el artista ruso Nicholas ROERICH con el objetivo principal de proteger el patrimonio cultural en tiempos de guerra. Fue firmado en Washington en 1935 y ratificado por los Estados Unidos y todos los países de América Latina. Es un Tratado sobre la Protección de Instituciones Artísticas y Científicas y Monumentos Históricos que establece que los monumentos históricos, museos e instituciones culturales deben ser protegidos y señalizados con una «Bandera de la Paz». Esta bandera, que presenta tres puntos en un círculo, simboliza la unidad entre el arte, la ciencia y la espiritualidad, y se interpreta como un emblema de la protección cultural y la eternidad del tiempo.
Este símbolo tiene sus manifestaciones más remotas en el Paleolítico, donde ya aparece en amuletos y figuras prehistóricas. Esto demuestra su conexión ancestral con el concepto de unidad y la cultura de la humanidad. Para ROERICH se trata de un reflejo de la trinidad de la existencia, representando las tres grandes áreas del conocimiento humano: Arte, Ciencia y Espiritualidad.
Aunque estas ideas del «Pacto Roerich» no se han implementado completamente, su legado sigue vigente, y tanto el pacto original como su emblema, continúan siendo una poderosa llamada a la paz, la cultura y la cooperación internacional en la preservación de los tesoros culturales de la humanidad. Así, en 1949 durante la Cuarta Conferencia General de la UNESCO, se tomaron medidas para regular la protección del patrimonio cultural. Y años más tarde, se celebró la Convención de La Haya de 1954 sobre protección del patrimonio cultural en conflictos armados. Es deber de la ONU continuar promoviendo las ideas de ROERICH sobre la importancia de la cultura como camino hacia la paz, en especial en un contexto del cambio climático y de crisis medioambientales como consecuencia de la contaminación que todos provocamos (en particular los conflictos bélicos y sus derivados: producción de armas, etc.)
Esta obra de ROERICH también ha inspirado movimientos artísticos contemporáneos. Un ejemplo de ello es mi obra «Paz en la Tierra, en Memoria de Nicholas Roerich» (óleo sobre madera, 63x63cm), que toma el símbolo del pacto y lo adapta a los desafíos modernos, como el cuidado del medio ambiente. En esta reinterpretación, el círculo con los tres puntos se fusiona con geometría sagrada y símbolos alquímicos, destacando la interconexión entre el arte, la ciencia y la espiritualidad, y subrayando la responsabilidad de la humanidad de preservar la biodiversidad de la Tierra.
Esta obra “Paz en la Tierra, en Memoria de Nicholas Roerich” tiene la intención de recordar el legado ROERICH en tiempos en los que la guerra se encuentra en cada rincón del planeta. Mantiene el objetivo de concienciar sobre la importancia que ejerce la cultura sobre la humanidad: el valor cultural de la espiritualidad, la ciencia y el arte para enriquecer, embellecer y fomentar la unidad de la diversidad cultural (educación de perspectivas interculturales y respeto a la diferencia), así como la Paz Universal. He añadido en su centro el “Corazón de La Tierra”, donde hojas naturales emergen de la Flor de la Creación formando un cubo o hexaedro, símbolo alquímico de la Tierra de Platón en su obra «Timaeus». La obra resalta así, al igual que la original, la responsabilidad de la humanidad de preservar la diversidad de estas áreas representadas por las esferas (espiritualidad, arte y ciencia), y añade la de preservar la biodiversidad de nuestra Madre Tierra.

El arte unificará a toda la humanidad. El arte es uno, indivisible. El arte tiene muchas ramas, pero todas son una. El arte es la manifestación de la síntesis venidera; el arte es para todos. Todos disfrutarán del verdadero arte. Las puertas de la “fuente sagrada” deben estar abiertas de par en par para todos, y la luz del arte influirá en numerosos corazones con un nuevo amor. Al principio este sentimiento será inconsciente, pero después de todo purificará la conciencia humana, y ¡cuántos corazones jóvenes están buscando algo real y bello! Así que dáselo. Lleva el arte a la gente, donde pertenece. No sólo deberíamos tener museos, teatros, universidades, bibliotecas públicas, estaciones de tren y hospitales, sino incluso prisiones decoradas y embellecidas. Entonces no tendremos más prisiones.
La humanidad se enfrenta a los próximos acontecimientos de grandeza cósmica. La humanidad ya se da cuenta de que no todos los sucesos son accidentales. El tiempo para la construcción de la cultura futura está cerca. Ante nuestros ojos se está presenciando la reevaluación de los valores. Entre las ruinas de los billetes sin valor, la humanidad ha encontrado el verdadero valor de la significación del mundo. Los valores del gran arte y del conocimiento atraviesan victoriosamente todas las tormentas de las conmociones terrenales. Incluso la gente «terrenal» ya comprende la importancia vital de una belleza viva. Y cuando proclamamos: trabajo, belleza y acción, sabemos en verdad que pronunciamos la fórmula del lenguaje internacional. Y esta fórmula, que ahora pertenece al museo y al escenario, debe entrar en la vida cotidiana. El signo de la belleza y la acción abrirá todas las puertas. Bajo el signo de la belleza caminamos alegremente. Con la belleza y el trabajo conquistamos. En la belleza estamos unidos. Y ahora afirmamos estas palabras, no en las alturas nevadas, sino en medio del tumulto de la ciudad. Y al darnos cuenta del camino de la verdadera realidad, saludamos al futuro con una sonrisa feliz.

In this group exhibition, I present my work Peace on Earth, paying tribute to Nicholas Roerich: artist, philosopher, writer, archaeologist, traveler and great Pacifist thinker. He painted more than 7000 canvases (many of which are found in galleries famous for all over the world) and wrote more than thirty literary works…
Peace on Earth, in Memory of Nicholas Roerich
The «Roerich Pact» (also known as Pax Cultura) is an international agreement proposed by the Russian artist Nicholas ROERICH with the main objective of protecting cultural heritage in times of war. It was signed in Washington in 1935 and ratified by the United States and all Latin American countries. It is a Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historical Monuments that establishes that historical monuments, museums and cultural institutions must be protected and marked with a «Flag of Peace». This flag, which features three points in a circle, symbolizes the unity between art, science and spirituality, and is interpreted as an emblem of cultural protection and the eternity of time.
This symbol has its most remote manifestations in the Paleolithic, where it already appears on amulets and prehistoric figures. This demonstrates their ancestral connection with the concept of unity and the culture of humanity. For ROERICH it is a reflection of the trinity of existence, representing the three great areas of human knowledge: Art, Science and Spirituality.
Although these ideas of the «Roerich Pact» have not been fully implemented, its legacy lives on, and both the original pact and its emblem continue to be a powerful call for peace, culture and international cooperation in the preservation of cultural treasures of humanity. Thus, in 1949 during the Fourth General Conference of UNESCO, measures were taken to regulate the protection of cultural heritage. And years later, the 1954 Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Heritage in Armed Conflicts was held. It is the duty of the UN to continue promoting ROERICH’s ideas about the importance of culture as a path to peace, especially in a context of climate change and environmental crises as a consequence of the pollution that we all cause (particularly war and its derivatives: weapons production, etc.)
This work by ROERICH has also inspired contemporary artistic movements. An example of this is my work «Peace on Earth, in Memory of Nicholas Roerich», which takes the symbol of the pact and adapts it to modern challenges, such as caring for the environment. In this reinterpretation, the circle with the three points merges with sacred geometry and alchemical symbols, highlighting the interconnection between art, science and spirituality, and underlining humanity’s responsibility to preserve the Earth’s biodiversity.
This work “Peace on Earth, in Memory of Nicholas Roerich” is intended to remember the ROERICH legacy in times when war is found in every corner of the planet. Maintains the objective of raising awareness about the importance that culture exerts on humanity: the cultural value of spirituality, science and art to enrich, beautify and promote the unity of cultural diversity (education of intercultural perspectives and respect for difference ), as well as Universal Peace. I have added in its center the “Heart of the Earth”, where natural leaves emerge from the Flower of Creation forming a cube or hexahedron, alchemical symbol of Plato’s Earth in his work «Timaeus». The work thus highlights, like the original, humanity’s responsibility to preserve the diversity of these areas represented by the spheres (spirituality, art and science), and adds that of preserving the biodiversity of our Mother Earth.

Art will unify all humanity. Art is one—indivisible. Art has its many branches, yet all are one. Art is the manifestation of the coming synthesis; art is for all. Everyone will enjoy true art. The gates of the ‘sacred source’ must be wide open for everybody, and the light of art will influence numerous hearts with a new love. At first this feeling will be unconscious, but after all it will purify human consciousness, and how many young hearts are searching for something real and beautiful! So give it to them. Bring art to the people—where it belongs. We should have not only museums, theaters, universities, public libraries, railway stations and hospitals, but even prisons decorated and beautified. Then we shall have no more prisons.
Humanity is facing the coming events of cosmic greatness. Humanity already realizes that all occurrences are not accidental. The time for the construction of future culture is at hand. Before our eyes the reassessment of values is being witnessed. Amidst ruins of valueless banknotes, mankind has found the real value of the world’s significance. The values of great art and knowledge are victoriously traversing all storms of earthly commotions. Even the ‘earthly’ people already understand the vital importance of a beauty that is alive. And when we proclaim: labor, beauty and action, we know verily that we pronounce the formula of the international language. And this formula, which now belongs to the museum and stage must enter into everyday life. The sign of beauty and action will open all gates. Beneath the sign of beauty we walk joyfully. With beauty and labor we conquer. In beauty we are united. And now we affirm these words—not on the snowy heights, but amidst the turmoil of the city. And realizing the path of true reality, we greet the future with a happy smile.
